Professional Biography
Kelly Basey completed undergraduate degrees in Spanish and Journalism at Oklahoma State University in 1988. She then lived in Madrid, Spain, where she taught International Business English for two years. Upon returning to the United States, Mrs. Basey attended the University of Oklahoma School of Law, and graduated with honors in 1995. For 12 years, she served the citizens of Oklahoma as an Assistant District Attorney in Oklahoma County. For six of those years, Mrs. Basey led the Drug Court program, which grew from 120 participants to over 350 participants in that time. She also founded and chaired the Task Force for the creation of the Oklahoma County Mental Health Court, the sixth such court in the United States. These courts were instituted to take the circumstances of substance addicts and the mentally ill into special consideration throughout their judicial proceedings.
Mrs. Basey served on the respective Advisory Boards of both the Drug Court and the Mental Health Court, and volunteered her time to teach emergency survival Spanish courses for the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office. She has been a frequent speaker for Continuing Legal Education, Oklahoma Bar Association Lawyers in the Classroom, Mental Health Conferences, Judicial Conferences, Legislative Committees, the Latino Community Development Agency, and various middle schools and high schools across the state.
